My sister always says, "To be cringe is to be free." I think about that all of the time.

I like your sister already.

“There is cringe in bad taste, but it also deserves our admiration. You can feel the ease of anyone who is fully themselves, who embodies their own style with such aplomb that the rest of us feel their gravitational pull.” 👏👏 with so much access to trends, micro trends and the like, everything & everyone is starting to feel the same except for those with “bad taste”. I keep asking myself…what IS taste today? But We know it when we see it, and you captured it perfectly! The air of ease in individuality and self confidence. That’s taste. Love your words, thank you Noora!

There is no rare breed that fits both camps. Influencers are in your face. Muses are what you dream of.

You believe someone’s words because they tell you what you want to hear.

Learn to be difficult when it counts. In school as in life, having a reputation for being assertive will help you receive preferential treatment without having to beg or fight for it every time. - Timothy Ferris

I think about this a lot with "movie stars" vs "influencers" and a movie star's aloofness was what made them more desirable.

So true. I tiptoe around “difficult” people because it’s easier but how freeing to realize we can also be those people and set our own boundaries?! (Also apologies to everyone I encounter tomorrow when I act in this freeing way!)

We also were NEVER meant to be available 24/7 to people - so I think it’s coming in a time where we are all trying to reclaim time instead of being expected to communaite/be available 24/7. I had to learn that having more than 4 hours of meetings a week takes a ton of time away from my actual “get shit done” and “create time” and had to release myself from feeling difficult. But now I get why people do it!

Loved this piece so much!! Currently in the midst of Lit Girl’s first term “Fame Labyrinth” and your thoughts fit perfectly within the course’s materials!

An inspiring think piece, thank you for that! I’ll jot it down like this in my notepad: A lightness of finally not being who you were never meant to be. Food for so much thought! 🤍

I like your writing even though some of the words, your material description to support your subject for “muses and influencers” went over my head.

I had to “time out” a moment to investigate and explore word definition and rack clarity in order to understand the multi-material phrases used to support your premise.

Yet it was fun reading “muses and influencers.” The challenge was worth every bit. Thank you.
