I recently read an interview with an art director (whom I greatly respect) where she said her biggest embarrassment is… being overdressed. I am nearly always overdressed.

To clarify, I wear jeans. And sneakers (sometimes. Ok fine, usually Loewe ones if not at the gym). But typically, even when in denim, I’m still dressed. A gathered satin Toteme flat, barely peeking out. A slouchy sweater in a brushed cashmere in a rare tamarind color (if you don’t know Lisa Yang, you should. The quality is incredible for the price). The Lucien earrings from Dorsey and a stack of layered necklaces. Part of this may be fashion armor, a signifier that I, perhaps more than other more secure individuals, need to broadcast that I’m interesting and creative and have someplace to be.
